In my last post I spit in the sucker and mailed it back. Then we waited and it didn’t take long to show that I was indeed Susanne’s dad.
I am here to tell you that it was instant love. Even before the DNA results. I wanted it to be true and so did she.
We exchanged pictures and we Facetimed on our phones and suddenly she had purchased a plane ticket to come and visit me in Phoenix.
We were both excited. Counting the days.
I had a friend of mine go with me to the airport to pick her up so he could video our first hug. I got there early and her plane landed and we waited. And waited. And waited. 10 minutes seemed like an hour. And still my daughter did not come through the door to baggage claim. She called me and not to make this too complicated but my friend was recording everything on my phone so when she called the recording stopped so I could talk to her. I’m by the food court she said so I went to the food court but no daughter. I don’t see you I told her and she said I’m right next to the counter. Still no daughter then I suggested she ask someone where she was to direct her to where I was, the door that led to baggage claim.
I was on the phone with her when she came through the door and we saw each other for the very first time. It was magic. And my friend filmed it all on his phone. The hug was super. And this started a 4 day visit we will both remember forever.
52 years and finally we met face to face. Or as she likes to say it, 51 years 11 months.
Susanne looks like my side of the family and resembles me a lot. But much better looking.
It turns out we have a lot in common, other than DNA or perhaps because of it. We are both a little zany.
We are both creative. We are both Coys.
She brought me a cigar that says… “Its A Girl”.
We toured the city and Phoenix Metro is a big city. 4.7 million people big.
She met two of her sisters.
I have 3 other daughters, all adopted by me. And we spent an evening with my good friend, Allison. But it was over too quickly.
It was a bummer to take her back to the airport for her flight home. But I had already booked my flight to see her and my new family in Indiana. I was going to be there for her 52nd birthday and everyone was coming to meet the new old man in their lives. 3 grand children and 7 great grandchildren and the rest of the crowd including my new son in law, the fire chief.
That will be the subject of my next entry….
